Kingsteignton’s Mayor, County Councillor Ron Peart, visited Teign School on Tuesday 29th January to see how a recent community fund donation has been spent. The Town Council’s community fund generously gave Teign £250 to spend on Mental Health initiatives; the first part of the money has now been spent by the School Librarian on a portable collection of books entitled ‘Young Minds.’

Ron met with Teign’s Mental Health Champion, Emma Dawe and some of her team of twenty Mental Health Ambassadors from Year 10. The students spoke to Ron about the ‘Early Help for Mental Health’ training they are undertaking (arranged by Assistant Head Lucie Wagner and delivered by Virgin Care) and the plans they have to support their peers throughout the school.  Head Teacher, Suzannah Wharf was also there to say a personal thanks for the funding.

Councillor Ron Peart said:

“It gave me great pleasure to attend Teign School to see how the funding we gave has been used to buy mental health books; I know they will be of great benefit to students. I was delighted to learn that some students have got involved by putting themselves forward as volunteers to help others with their issues.”
