Five hundred students in Teign school, from Years 7-9, started a ‘Sponsored Read’ on Monday 4th March as part of Teign School’s World Book Day events. This will continue until Friday 22nd March and during this time students are recording every page they read in a reading log in order to turn their reading into money. Students will be able to nominate where the money they raise goes; either to ‘Cancer Research UK’ (the charity chosen by the School Council) or to ‘Teign Treats’, a pot of money that will be used to provide additional rewards and treats for the students. Alternatively, the students can split what they raise to the two good causes.
Library Manager and event organiser Jo Halse said:
“This time we have a record number of students taking part in the Sponsored Read. I am really hopeful that we will make a significant amount of money for both Cancer Research UK and also raise money that can go back to those students that deserve praise within the school. Building on the School’s ‘Reading for Pleasure award 2018/19’, we are also encouraging the students to increase the amount they read during this event.”
