Teign School’s Year 13 students and staff attended a special Sixth Form Leavers’ Ceremony in the school’s library on the 24th May. This was a chance to celebrate some of the student successes that took place during the Sixth Form years. As well as praising accomplishments, it was also a time for saying goodbyes and reflecting on the transition to university, apprenticeships or the work place.
The event began with presentations of 5 cups and 38 certificates to the students by the school’s leadership team. Top awards were presented to Sam Bovey, who won the Headteacher’s Award for consistent hard work and determination throughout school, whilst the Chris Tozer Cup for Service to the School was awarded to Ellen Sowden. Other winners included Mia Hatzer who won the Joe Edwards Cup for Drama due to her fantastic performances in various lead roles. Willem Swann won the Jade Lancaster award for his Extended Project (amongst other accolades) and Ed Potter who accepted the Award for Academic Excellence in Politics The cohort warmly applauded the winners and were particularly delighted if they were one of the recipients!
“It is truly the most satisfying part of working with young people, to see them grow and develop, to achieve their goals and move on to aspirational futures,” said Mary Wills (Head of Year).
After the prize giving, the students and staff had the chance to reminisce over a buffet laid on by the Sixth Form. Staff were thanked for their support through the years and the students then left for pastures new. Teign School wishes them every success in their chosen paths.
