Teign School Year 9 student Seren Vaas has been selected as one of a small group of Scouts to represent Devon in the European Scouts Jamboree from 27th July to 6th August this year. To be considered, Seren had to write an application explaining why she would like to be considered to go to the camp:
“I wrote that I thought it would be a great opportunity to see Poland and to meet fellow scouts from all over Europe,” she said. “I was delighted to receive an email saying I had been accepted.”
As part of the preparations for the visit, a training camp was recently held in Plymouth. This gave Seren (a River Teign Sea Scout) the chance to meet with young people from other Scout groups across Devon who will be travelling to Poland in this summer.
In order to go to the Jamboree, the scouts have to raise £1,500 each. Seren has already been innovative with her fund-raising selling teas, coffees and snacks near Shaldon beach and by washing staff cars at Teign school. She has already raised £200 towards her goal.
Her next fund-raising idea is to collect Christmas trees for disposal after the festivities have finished.
