On Tuesday 12th November, local WW2 Navy Veteran, Tony Portman visited Teign school to talk about his war-time experiences with any interested students. Around 30 students came to a classroom to meet Tony in their lunchtime. Our visitor had brought his medals, photographs and lots of tales of what it was like serving on various ships during and after the war. Students were really interested to learn Tony was only 11 when he first went to Naval school and that he was serving on a battleship at 16. A year 8 student also bought in his military models collection which was popular with the students. Mrs Halse also shared a number of war-time documents such as ration books & newspapers from the time. Our thanks to Tony for giving up his time once again to enrich our students’ education and thanks to the students who made him so welcome. Tony was particularly touched at how many students came and said “Thank you for what you did for us”.
