'Born to Win’ Club

15th March 2023

Our ‘Born to Win’ gifted and talented club for year 5-6 students has been going really well.

In the last few weeks we have focused on the physical and social aspects of our performance. We have been reflecting on our support networks & thinking about how we can develop our performance at home.

This week we focused in on our mental well-being. Having experienced an inspirational talk from @dralexgeorge at the Youth Sport Trust conference a couple of weeks ago we thought it was so important to educate our students on the importance of this vital element for our success & happiness.

We started by exploring the head strand in general (cognitive skills) to solve problems, be creative and develop strategy for sport and physical activity. We did this through some unique physical challenges and team games trying to outwit our opponents. Afterwards, we explored the importance of mental well-being, looking after ourselves and the people around us to truly reach our potential in sport and in life. After trying some mental and physical relaxation activities we  discussed the importance of asking the question; “how are you?” twice, really listening to others and using a traffic light system to share and explain our day to our families at home. Developing open communication is key to a healthy head! We tied into this the challenge that social media poses to the mental well-being of this generation & urged our brilliant students to remember that they have the power to put their screens down & not get tied up in what they see.

Well done once again superstars - you really are “born to win”
