Teign School’s Pride Through Success Awards Evenings

20th September 2021

On the evenings of Wednesday 16th  and 17th September, Teign staff gathered with invited students and their families for our ‘Pride Through Success Awards’ (celebrating the previous academic year). These ceremonies have evolved through the years due to the vision of the School’s driven pastoral team.  What began as year group celebrations has now moved to an annual event in which the school celebrates the fantastic achievements of the students within the wider community. This year’s event was organised by Head of Year 8, Neil Cripps supported by a team of dedicated Teign staff.

The students nominated were young people for whom excellence, resilience and maximum effort are commonplace and who deserve to be recognised for their significant achievements. Over 240 awards were presented covering a variety of categories. Excellence, effort and progress in every school subject brought reward across the year group awards, alongside presentation of ‘Contribution to Sports’, ‘Performing Arts’, ‘Outdoor Pursuits’ and ‘Whole School Life’ trophies. Reading cups were an additional category for the Year 7 & 8 cohorts.

Musical interludes were provided by talented Teign Year 8 performer Charlie Churchill (on electric guitar) on Wednesday. Thursday’s musicians were Year 9s Ellen Mallett (Voice), Madeleine Khan (Piano), Lucy Jenkin (Guitar) along with Y10  Imogen-Celeste Waring (Voice & piano playing her own composition). There were also inspirational speeches from Headteacher, Suzannah Wharf and Deputy Heads Andy Goodwin and Matt Bakewell.

Teachers got the chance to nominate students within their forms for the Tutor Awards and the Headteacher Commendations were won by young people who stand out for their outstanding achievements in and outside of school. The culmination of the evening was the presentation of the ‘Pride Through Success Award’ which went to Kiera Marwood & Maya Fairs in Years 7 and 8 respectively on Wednesday and Emma Pickett and Eliya Gale for Year 9 and 10 on Thursday night.

Head Teacher, Suzannah Wharf commented on the evenings:

We are so delighted to have been able to run our Pride Through Success Evenings. The Teign School ethos is all about celebrating achievements of our students. Recognising their academic commitment and their wider contribution to the school community is an important part of our school culture. We have so many talented and inspiring young people at Teign who are a credit to their families, our school and the wider community. We are very proud of what they are achieving and how they conduct themselves every day. A huge well done to them all!
